چکیده

AMONGST 34,000 patients, 138 were found with congenital nystagmus, of whom at least twenty showed the form known as " latent nystagmus ". Of these, thirteen were classed as typical (Table). The nature and origin of this uncommon condition is a mystery. A curious fact was revealed in this study: all the patients with this form of nystagmus had another mysterious condition-alternating hyperphoria or " sursumduction ". It is thought that an explanation of this association may throw light on the normal development and nature of the reflexes that underlie perfect oculomotor control. Let us first of all briefly consider the knowledge we have of the former condition.

Latent/manifest latent nystagmus reversal using an ocular prosthesis. Implications for vision and ocular dominance.

Latent/manifest latent nystagmus (LMLN) is a jerk nystagmus with a decreasing-velocity or linear slow phase whose fast phase is in the direction of the fixating eye. Change of the fixating eye by alternating tropias or cover will cause reversal of the LMLN to preserve this relationship. In the dark, where no fixation is possible, the fast phases of LMLN are in the direction of the intended fixa...

The clinical and molecular genetic features of idiopathic infantile periodic alternating nystagmus.

Periodic alternating nystagmus consists of involuntary oscillations of the eyes with cyclical changes of nystagmus direction. It can occur during infancy (e.g. idiopathic infantile periodic alternating nystagmus) or later in life. Acquired forms are often associated with cerebellar dysfunction arising due to instability of the optokinetic-vestibular systems. Idiopathic infantile periodic altern...

Acquired Periodic Alternating Nystagmus

대한신경과학회지 22권 5호 548 Periodic alternating nystagmus (PAN) is a rare type of spontaneous horizontal nystagmus, characterized by periodical reverse of direction with a transition period in between. PAN can occur in both congenital and acquired forms. We report a patient with acquired PAN associated with meningoencephalitis. To our knowledge, only a case of congenital PAN has been previously report...

Time-varying, slow-phase component interaction in congenital nystagmus

We investigated the nystagmus of a 12-year-old boy with suspected X-linked congenital nystagmus (CN) and exophoria to determine the underlying mechanisms and component signals in the 'dual-velocity' and other slow phases of his Asymmetric (a)Periodic Alternating Nystagmus (APAN). Fast Fourier transforms (FFT) were performed on the waveforms and residual data after subtracting a sawtooth wavefor...
